Every Day in May: May 31st
Here we are! 31 days of May and 31 pages in my Moleskine. A nice, poetic ending too. This spread officially completes this sketchbook, and I go out on Arthur at work. This is a very, very rough sketch of the image that I am doing for the San Rafael Italian Street Painting festival in a couple of weeks. So here I am wrapping up EDIM and moving into my next big thing and also easing back into my
web comic. Like I said: a nice poetic ending.

Every Day in May: May 30th

As my wife pointed out yesterday that May has 31 days not 30 days, so yesterday was my antepenultimate EDIM and this is my penultimate EDIM. Just a bunch sketches from random news photos + random doodles.

Almost there. This is my penultimate EDIM. The pen drawing here is a little sloppy, but I'm trying to pick up my speed a little. I'd like to get to the point where I can create a credible pen sketch in an hour or so, and not have to take 3 hours for it to look decent.
I'm also enjoying getting back to the watercolors again. It's funny though; I feel the need to have the structure of a pen drawing or a pretty well established pencil drawing to hang the color on. I should try working from a very light, rough pencil sketch or even straight into watercolor.

Every Day in May: May 4th

4th day sketch. For every day in May. Did this mostly on the bus into work and was going to do some more on the way back, but the evening bus was really vibrating. My pencil was like a seismograph. Sometimes I can draw on the bus no problem, and sometimes it's impossible. Depends on the bus.

Every Day in May: May 3rd

May 3rd sketch. Done mostly in downtown Sonoma, although I finished it up at home with the help of a photo from iPhone. 3 down. 27 to go!

CLICK THE THUMBNAIL TO VIEWSketching the view of the building at 1st & Mission from atop the 100 First Public Parking garage.
View Larger MapI'm not sure why it's called '100 First' when it's actually at 524 Mission, but there is a great little garden park up top. Very pleasant spot for sketching.
I have to figure out posting images and locations from my iPhone, but when it comes down to it, I'd rather spend the little time I have out of doors sketching.

Commute Sketch
Here's something drawn mostly on the bus. I don't know how Chris Ware does it. How he draws so smoothly, in ink, on the bus. That just doesn't seem natural. Click the thumbnail to see the full image.

Communication Sketch
I was trying to clean out my overstuffed harddrive to make room for more stuff and came across this, from my sketchbook. I was working on this for the Illustration Friday 'communication' theme, but I never finished and was busy on the thrusday before the upload page got switched so...
Anyway, here it is, as is.

Sketchbook 8 complete...more or less
I completed
sketchbook number 8 with
citrus entry for illustration friday. I was going to do some more tweaking the cover 'cause the painting is a little sloppy, but I final decided that enough is enough, and anyway I kinda like the sloppiness as it relates to the work-in-progress nature of the idea of a sketchbook. There are still some bits in here that I like that I may post in the furture. In the meanwhile...on to #9.

Back in the illofri saddle...sort of. Too much going on at work and home to do much more than a sketchbook doodle this week. Maybe more next time. Maybe!
